RAA Boat Insurance covers you Australia-wide, and up to 200 nautical miles off the coast of Australia. Our policies include cover for your boat, engine and trailer.

    Standard benefits

    Accidental loss or damage

    You’re covered Australia-wide and up to 200 nautical miles off the coastline of Australia for accidental loss or damage to your boat as a result of a storm, fire, flood, hail, malicious damage (such as vandalism), collision, perils of the sea, and theft or attempted theft. Any standard accessories (e.g. fish finder/chart plotter/CB radio/lifesaving equipment) that were fitted to the boat when new are covered under your policy. After-market accessories can be added to your policy.

    Contents cover

    If contents on your boat are accidentally damaged following a break in or other incident, we’ll cover up to $2,000 for contents (excluding personal effects such as mobile phones, tablets, jewellery and credit cards).

    New boat replacement

    If you buy a brand new boat and it’s written off within the first two years of the initial registration date, we’ll replace it with a new one of the same or similar make, model or series, subject to local availability.

    If your boat is reported missing while you’re aboard, we’ll cover up to $5000 charged by a maritime rescue organisation for each rescue operation.

    Accidents: other people's property (Legal liability and costs)

    You’re covered for up to $20 million in loss or damage to other people’s property caused by the use of your boat in Australia and up to 200 nautical miles off the coastline of Australia. We'll also cover all legal costs and expenses incurred in defending any civil court proceedings arising from an insured event (with our prior agreement).

    You’re covered for $5 million in costs from bodily injury or death of a person caused by the use of your boat in Australia. We'll also cover all legal costs and expenses incurred in defending any civil court proceedings arising from an insured event (with our prior agreement).

    We’ll reimburse the cost of an inspection of your boat’s hull after running aground, even if no damage is found.

  • Emergency repairs

    We’ll cover up to $750 for emergency repairs to your boat so you can get it to your destination, the nearest repairer or a place of safety, after an incident.

  • $0 excess if you're not at fault

    You don't need to pay an excess if, in our opinion, you weren't at fault and you can supply the details of the other party involved.

    We’ll reimburse the cost of salvage and the removal of the wreck of your boat following an incident.

  • Towing and storage

    If your boat is damaged as the result of an incident, we’ll reimburse the cost of its removal and storage at the nearest repairer or place of safety, or to any other place approved by us.

    If the driver of your boat is accidentally killed as a result of a boating accident (private use only), we'll pay $5,000 to the estate of the deceased driver. If the driver under 18 years of age, we'll pay their legal guardian.

    Waterskier’s liability

    We’ll extend legal liability cover to the driver, observer and waterskier on or being towed by your boat for up to $20 million, for any loss or damage to other people's property and/or their bodily injury or death that occurs while they're using your boat for waterskiing.

    We’ll cover you for loss or damage to sails, masts, spars, standing and running rigging if you’re racing under sail or travelling to or from a race. We’ll also extend legal liability cover for loss or damage to someone else's property, bodily injury or death that occurs while using your boat for racing.

    We give you a 10% discount on each policy when you hold three or more insurance policies with RAA (excluding Travel Insurance) in the same name.
