How much does a mobility scooter cost?
If you're an RAA member, most Shoprider mobility scooters will cost between $3000 and $6000 when you use your member discount.
Entry level mobility scooters may be cheaper, but they have less range and power than our premium models. So, if you live in a hilly area, or travel longer distances, consider buying a premium model.
Visit our online store for the latest pricing.

Using a mobility scooter
-
Do I need a driver’s licence to use a mobility scooter?
No, you don't need a driver's licence to use a mobility scooter. However, if you have a condition that prevents you from driving a car, it may affect your ability to safely use a mobility scooter.
If you're looking to buy a mobility scooter and have a pre-existing medical condition or are taking medication, consult your doctor first.
-
Can I take a mobility scooter on public transport in Adelaide?
Adelaide Metro branded buses, trains and trams now have ramps that can help you board.
Some scooters though may be too large to use on public transport.
If you’d like to use your mobility scooter on public transport, you can read more about size requirements and planning your journey on the Adelaide Metro website.
-
Can I drive a mobility scooter on the road?
The only time a mobility scooter should only be driven on the road is when there's no practical footpath or nature strip available.
You’ll be considered a pedestrian by the Australian Road Rules if your mobility scooter can’t travel more than 10 km/h on a flat surface.
If you’re driving a mobility scooter on the road, you must
- keep to the far left or far right
- face oncoming traffic where possible
- not travel in bike lanes
You can find out more about the road rules you need to follow when driving your mobility scooter on the SA Government’s motorised wheelchairs page.
-
Am I allowed to drive a mobility scooter in a supermarket or shopping centre?
Yes, you are. It’s important to be careful though, as you’ll be surrounded by other people and potential hazards. Try to keep your speed down and avoid tight spaces.
-
How far can a mobility scooter go on a single charge?
How far you can travel depends on the terrain, your weight, and the size of the battery.
For example, the Shoprider All Rounder 2023 model with a 40Amp battery can travel up to 40km on a single charge. The smaller Shoprider Mobility Scooter GK9 Little Ripper will travel up to 20km on a single charge.
If you're not sure which scooter is right for you, call us on 1800 251 254 or visit an RAA Shop.

How often do I need to replace my mobility scooter’s batteries?
If you are using it occasionally, you may get a few years out of a single battery. If you use your mobility scooter more regularly, you may get 12-18 months out of the battery.
You'll know it's time to replace your battery when your mobility scooter can't travel as far as it used to on a single charge. You can purchase a new battery during a regular service. If you have RAA Road Service, you can also purchase a replacement battery from one of our patrols.
If you are unsure if your battery needs replacing, call our experts on 8202 4477.
-
How often should I service my mobility scooter?
Shoprider (the brand we sell at RAA) recommends that you get your scooter serviced every six months. This can help to prolong the life of your scooter and maintain its reliability.
Shoprider mobility scooters can be serviced at our Mile End workshop, or we can come to you if you live in metro Adelaide. RAA members receive a discount on servicing and parts for Shoprider models.
Mobile servicing is subject to the suitability and safety of the location as determined by RAA. Mobile servicing and pick-up/drop-off service is available in metropolitan Adelaide only. Additional fees will apply if you require RAA to pick up/drop off your scooter from your home for a major service at our Mile End workshop. -
